Welcome to Educational Development

Educational Development provides a central University-wide service from within Adult Learning and Teaching, supporting and informing Stirling’s learning and teaching quality enhancement strategy.

students in a lecture theatreWe are commited to supporting and promoting the enhancement of learning and teaching at the University of Stirling, fostering innovation and the dissemination of good practice.

Within the University our activities are diverse and wide-ranging, involving engagement, and collaboration, with individuals and units at all levels and across all disciplines and functional areas, including the students’ union. Externally to the University, we work in partnership with relevant colleagues, organisations and professional bodies.

Our work is both reactive and proactive in nature, hence subject to change. Straddling institutional, curriculum and academic development educational development activities are broadly focused around:

  • improving student retention;
  • promoting and supporting student engagement with the University and its wider community;
  • enhancing students’ employability;
  • promoting and facilitating professional development in teaching and the support of learning;
  • facilitating, and contributing to, Stirling’s engagement with the sectoral quality enhancement agenda in Scotland and other UK-wide enhancement initiatives;
  • developing an evidence base to inform practice and strategic, institutional decision-making.
