Research Studentships

The Stirling Institute of Education is internationally renowned for its research in education, with particular strengths in educational theory and philosophy and in research on inclusive and democratic education, adult education and lifelong learning, work-based learning and professional education, and children’s learning with digital technologies. Doing a research degree at The Stirling Institute of Education will allow you to work closely with international experts in their field and be part of a forward-looking social scientific research community. We currently have the following opportunities for studentships.

As part of a University of Stirling initiative the Stirling Institute of Education is pleased to offer a number of fully funded Postgraduate Research Studentships commencing in Session 2010-11 for students undertaking research leading to the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).

We have a growing and dynamic doctoral community and our students play an integral role in contributing to the research culture of the Institute.  Students are supervised by academics who are experts in their respective fields and whose work has influenced policy and practice in Scotland, the UK and overseas. With the opportunity to participate in regular departmental seminars, research groups and an annual departmental doctoral conference, The Stirling Institute of Education offers a stimulating environment to undertake doctoral studies.

ESRC Research Studentships 2010

The ESRC (Economic and Social Research Council) offers a limited number of research studentships for research in education. These are for four years of study ('1+3') towards the PhD, including a one year Masters programme of research training (MRes). Please check out the eligibility criteria in the guidance notes before responding.  Guidance notes and further information is available here.
