Pre-sessional Courses 2012

CELT offers three pre-sessional routes for students preparing to enter degree courses: A 12-week Pre-sessional from June to August for those who need to increase their IELTS score by 1.0, an 8-week Pre-sessional in July and August for those who need to raise their IELTS score by 0.5, and a 4-week Pre-sessional in August for those with an unconditional offer.

Our programmes are tailored to the needs of international students and will help you develop your Academic English and Study Skills to the level required for your degree studies.

Please note: Students must have met the language requirement associated with entry to the 12-week and 8-week Pre-sessionals before these courses commence. Should you have any doubts regarding the appropriate course of study for you, please contact Student Recruitment and Admissions Service for advice.

Accommodation: On-campus accommodation should be booked along with your course. This comprises a single study bedroom with shared use of bathrooms and kitchens.


The 12-Week Pre-sessional

11 June to 31 August 2012

This course is for students with conditional offers from the University of Stirling who wish to increase their IELTS score by 1.0 overall and in some skills without retaking the IELTS test.

 

In the first four weeks, classes take place all day from Monday to Friday. In week five, students will enter the 8-week Pre-sessional programme and are expected to have increased their IELTS score by 1.0 by the end of the 12-week Pre-sessional.

The 8-Week Pre-sessional

9 July to 31 August 2012

This course is for students with conditional offers from the University of Stirling who wish to increase their IELTS score by 0.5 overall and in some skills without retaking the IELTS test.

The course aims at improving your English Language Proficiency and Academic Study Skills before you embark on your degree studies. You will practise:

  • understanding and taking notes from lectures;
  • seminar and discussion skills;
  • giving presentations;
  • writing academic essays;
  • academic referencing;
  • compiling bibliographies.

You will be assessed in the following skills at the end of the course: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking.

Timetable:

You will attend class from 9am – 1pm Monday to Friday, and from 2 – 3.30 pm on Mondays and Wednesdays. Visits to Edinburgh, Glasgow, and St Andrews, as well as an end-of-course ceilidh, are also part of your programme.

Tuition Fee: £2950

The 4-week Pre-sessional

6  to 31 August 2012

This course is for students who have an unconditional offer from Stirling University.

The course aims at developing and enhancing your English Language and Academic Study Skills before you embark on your degree programme. You will practise:

  • understanding and taking notes from lectures;
  • seminar and discussion skills;
  • giving presentations;
  • writing academic essays;
  • academic referencing;
  • compiling bibliographies.

Timetable:

You will attend class from 9am – 1pm, and from 2 – 3.30 pm on Mondays and Wednesdays. Visits to Edinburgh, Glasgow, and St Andrews, as well as an end-of-course ceilidh are also part of your programme.

Tuition Fee: £1475
